Our story
Calm, discovered not prescribed
After losing both of her parents in quick succession, Karen Kerr found that mainstream meditation apps didn't speak to what she needed in the quiet moments when her mind felt loudest. Standing on the shores of Loch Lomond, she pressed record.
She began narrating gentle, place rooted reflections in her own Scottish voice, woven with the sounds of water and wind, to help her sleep, breathe and feel tethered again. She kept returning to a Celtic saying: "You're not sad, sadness is upon you."
Those recordings became Tethered. Karen and her husband Graeme launched the app in September 2024. It passed 10,000 downloads in its first months, now holds a 4.8 star rating on the App Store, and is listened to mostly in the United States and the UK.
The methodology
Twenty years of storytelling
Every piece of Tethered content follows a methodology developed by Karen over more than twenty years of branding, storytelling and content work in Scotland. Sessions are written and voiced by people for a clear need, drifting to sleep or finding steadiness, then scored with original music and real nature recordings.
Hotels noticed. Today the same methodology powers Tethered Hospitality, which creates bespoke content for hotels about their own location, anywhere in the world.
