AI & Algorithmic Transparency Statement

For our community at Tethered, we are always looking at how we can use technology to help you connect with nature and mindfulness and deliver the best experience. This includes the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automated algorithms to personalise your experience. Transparency is our priority.

1. How We Use AI

We utilise AI and algorithmic technology in two main ways: 

  • Personalised Recommendations: Our "For You" features analyse your listening history and "favourited" content to suggest new stories and soundscapes. 

  • Mood-Based Search & Chat: Our search functionality allows you to input how you feel (e.g., "I feel anxious") to find relevant content. This is powered by a Large Language Model (LLM) that interprets your text to provide the most appropriate mindfulness resources.

  • Content Generation: We may occasionally utilise AI tools to generate content and imagery. We may also generate content based on user inputs where the user chooses to do so.

2. How the Platform works and the Logic behind it. 

Our AI does not make "legal" or "life-altering" decisions. Its logic is based on: 

  • Keyword & Contextual Association: Mapping your current mood or search query to the themes within our Scottish folklore and meditation library. 

  • User Feedback: Learning from what you choose to listen to and what you skip to refine future suggestions.

3. Data and Privacy

  • No Clinical Diagnosis: Our AI is a tool for wellness discovery. It is not designed to diagnose or treat any medical or psychological condition.

  • Human in the Loop: Our content library is curated by humans. The AI only assists in helping you find that content.

  • Your Data: We process the data you provide to the AI in accordance with our Privacy Notice. We do not use your personal data to "train" third-party AI models without your explicit consent.

4. Your Rights and Choices.

You are in control of your journey. You can:

  • Opt-out of personalised recommendations in your account settings.

  • Request an explanation of how a specific recommendation was made by contacting support@tetheredapp.com.

  • Reset your "Personalisation Profile" at any time.
